$787 billion dollars is an awful lot of money! Certainly enough to attract the most creative fraudsters!

In fact, conventional wisdom estimates are that 7 pecent of government spending is lost to fraud, hence $55 billion from this program alone.

Con artists fleece gullible people an businesses hoping to profit from the stimulus. Some are simple get-rich schemes such as advertising for \"free money\" if you know how to find and apply for these grants. Here the schemes are intended to make unauthorized changes to people\'s financial records.

The New York Times has reported that contractors or other legitimate receipients have been warned not to respond to official looking requests for confidential financial information without checking with the procurement office.

The Justice Department has gone on record \"we will fast track to prosecution if somebody is stupid enough to steal this money.
